General information
General information
Tillandsia usneoides is known here as 'Spanish moss' or 'Louisian moss' and belongs to the bromeliad family. In its distribution area from the USA to Central and South America it is called 'Cabello de hadas', which translates as 'fairy hair'. The name comes from a tragic story in which a princess was murdered by enemies on the day of her wedding. Full of grief, the groom cut off the princess's hair and hung it in a tree. The wind carried it away and spread it throughout the country.
Tillandsia grow epiphytically on trees, cacti or power poles and take water and fertilizer from their surroundings without developing roots. They can form strands up to 8 meters long, the flowers are small, green and rather inconspicuous.
It is a real eye-catcher and wonderful for decoration. Whether in the living room, in the shower cubicle or in the terrarium, there are many places where Tillandsia can look great!
care instructions
care instructions
Tillandsia is very undemanding and only needs a little. However, regular watering by spraying or showering is important so that it does not dry out completely. If brown spots appear, you are watering it a little too little. It prefers a bright location, but not direct sunlight. In spring and summer, you can occasionally add a little orchid or bromeliad fertilizer to the spray water.
